SUMMARY:Poetry Workshop & Reading
DESCRIPTION:Invitation Bookshop welcomes Ansley Clark and Kathleen Byrd\, who will teach a free poetry workshop from 2-3:30p followed by a reading from their own poetry collections from 4-5p. RSVP required for the workshop as space is limited. \nABOUT THE WORKSHOP: \nInherited Objects: A Writing Workshop This 90-minute writing workshop with poets Kathleen Byrd and Ansley Clark focuses on the theme of inherited objects\, family stories\, and ancestors. Kathleen and Ansley will offer examples of poems about inheritance along with writing prompts\, and participants will have time to write and share their work. You are invited to bring an inherited object for reflection\, but this is not required\, and the workshoppers will also provide a few objects for you to use while writing. This workshop is open to all–no experience necessary. \nABOUT THE AUTHORS: \nKathleen Byrd  \nI’m a writer\, teacher\, and poet living in Olympia\, Washington. I love helping people gain an appreciation of poetry and guiding people to find the poet within. I believe we all have deep inclinations toward poetry. This comes through our play with language such as figures of speech\, rhyme\, and rhythm. Poetry helps us feel and express the ineffable of shared human experience. It is sensory and mysterious but also accessible to all. I lead workshops in reading and writing poetry and love to collaborate with other writers and artists. I teach writing at SPSCC and am serving as the 4th poet laureate of Olympia\, Washington through July of 2025. My first collection of poems\, Last Resort\, was recently published by Last Word Books in Olympia\, WA. \nAnsley Clark \nAnsley is a writer and teacher from the Pacific Northwest. She is the author of Bloodline (MoonPath Press 2024)\, and the chapbook Geography (Dancing Girl Press 2015). Her poems and essays have appeared in Poetry Northwest\, Colorado Review\, Bennington Review\, and elsewhere. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Poetry from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2016. She currently is the director of the Writing Center at The Evergreen State College and lives in Olympia\, Washington with her dog.

SUMMARY:Storytime + Craft with Mary Boone
DESCRIPTION:Invitation Bookshop welcomes Mary Boone\, author of Pedal Pusher for a storytime and craft!\n\nABOUT THE BOOK:\nA fascinating nonfiction picture book about Annie Cohen Kopchovsky\, the first woman to ride a bicycle around the world. Annie Cohen Kopchovsky was ready to ride her bicycle. Not to the market. Not around the block. Not across town. Annie was going to ride her bike all the way around the world. In 1894\, when two men bet that a woman could never bicycle around the world\, as a man had done\, Annie set out to prove them wrong\, despite not knowing how to ride a bike. Dressed in a long skirt\, she began her journey in Boston. It wasn’t easy\, but Annie never gave up. Her adventure brought her enormous attention in every place she visited along the way\, and she loved it all. She told many stories–about hunting tigers\, dodging bullets\, socializing with royalty\, and serving time in a Japanese prison–and some of them were probably not true. But she did ride all the way around the world. And she changed the way that world thought about what women were capable of doing. Filled with captivating illustrations of the incredible globe-spanning journey\, this celebratory picture book tells the story of an unsung feminist icon\, the marvelous and resilient Annie Cohen Kopchovsky.\n\n\nABOUT THE AUTHOR:\n\nMary Boone has ridden an elephant\, skydived\, and eaten dozens of cricket cookies – all in the interest of research for her books and articles. She has written 60-plus nonfiction books for young readers. Mary lives in Tacoma\, Washington\, where she shares an office with an Airedale Terrier named Ruthie Bader. \nSee less

SUMMARY:Author Event: Heather McBreen - Wedding Dashers
DESCRIPTION:Invitation Bookshop welcomes Heather McBreen\, author of Wedding Dashers\, in conversation with Erin Connor\, author of Unromance. This event includes time for audience questions and an author signing.\n***RSVPs REQUIRED ON OUR WEBSITE***\n\nABOUT THE BOOK:\nAda’s little sister is getting married. Which should be a happy thought\, right? But the once close sisters have been in a year long fight\, the wedding is all the way in Ireland\, and Ada is so broke that she just barely managed to get a ticket on a budget airline. And as if things couldn’t get worse\, said airline just cancelled her connection. Which means Ada is stuck in London with no way to make it to the wedding. Surely she’s hit rock bottom? So\, there’s no reason for her not to spill her heart out about the over-the-top wedding\, her sister’s worryingly quick engagement\, and the womanizing best man she’s dreading meeting to a handsome also-stranded stranger at the bar. Until she realizes the stranger is headed to the same wedding. Oh\, and he’s the infamous best man. Now\, Jack and Ada must put their simmering attraction behind them to make it to Belfast before they miss the nuptials. But between flat tires\, missed trains\, and suspect hostels\, Jack and Ada start to question whether their feelings are worth going the distance\, or just a distracting detour along the way.\n\n\nABOUT THE AUTHOR:\nHeather McBreen currently lives in Seattle\, WA\, but spent the best year of her life living in London where she completed an MA degree in arts and cultural management. When she’s not writing or reading books about kissing\, she can be found surfing the web for travel deals and plotting her next adventure. Wedding Dashers is her debut novel.
