SUMMARY:MARCH Monday Movie Night- MR. NOBODY AGAINST PUTIN
DESCRIPTION:Pasha Talankin is an unlikely hero—a beloved Russian primary school teacher\, known as a mentor and prankster who offers students a safe haven in his office. After Russia invades Ukraine\, Pasha’s role in the school changes dramatically as he is reluctantly drawn into Putin’s propaganda machine. Forced to promote state-sanctioned messages and horrified by the transformation of his school and community\, he struggles with guilt and a sense of powerlessness\, leading him to become an international whistleblower. As the school’s videographer\, Pasha documents intimate and revealing footage of Putin’s regime\, capturing the rise of militarized children’s groups\, repressive laws\, fervent nationalism\, and the recruitment of graduating students to fight in the war. When he learns his own life may be at risk\, Pasha is forced to plan a dangerous escape from Russia. Directed by David Borenstein and co-directed by Pasha Talankin\, this uniquely collaborative film is as captivating and joyful as it is eye-opening and sobering. Mr. Nobody Against Putin showcases rare footage that reveals the profound impact of Putin’s regime on the lives of everyday Russians\, particularly its children. \n

SUMMARY:Monday Movie Night – Double Feature – EVERY LITTLE THING and THE BIRD IN MY BACKYARD
DESCRIPTION:Happy New Year\, Gig Harbor Film Fans! \nWe are back with a very special Monday Movie Night\, which we have dubbed “Hummingbird Night!” Join us Monday\, January 26th at 6:30pm\, for a screening of Every Little Thing preceded by the short film The Bird in My Backyard. Everyone in attendance at Galaxy Theatres Gig Harbor will be entered into a raffle for a Hummingbird-themed gift basket. \nFull of joy and wonder\, Every Little Thing offers some profound truths in a deceptively simple story. The documentary follows Terry Masear\, the founder of Los Angeles Hummingbird Rescue\, as she cares for injured hummingbirds. Witnessing the fragility and resilience of the tiny creatures\, she experiences her own personal growth. Baby Hummingbirds\, Cactus\, and Wasabi captivate and will have audiencescelebrating their tiny victories and lamenting their tragedies. With breathtaking slow-motion photography and beautiful storytelling\, the film serves as a reminder that in the smallest acts\, and in the tiniest of creatures\, we might find grace. \nBefore our feature film\, we will screen The Bird in My Backyard\, a favorite from last year’s festival. In an urban backyard on Canada’s West Coast\, a window salesman has created a living laboratory for investigating hummingbird behavior. The Bird in My Backyard follows citizen scientist Eric Pittman as he documents the journeys of two hummingbirds as they attempt to raise their young in his urban garden. It’s a story about the childlike curiosity in all of us\, the wonders it can reveal\, and the doors it can open if we just lean in a bit closer.

SUMMARY:NOVEMBER Monday Movie Night- Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for the next Monday Movie Night!  Monday\, November 24th at 6:30pm\, we invite you to a special screening of Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight. \nBased on the best-selling memoir of the same name\, Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight depicts 8-year-old Bobo’s life on her family’s Rhodesian farm during the final stages of the Bush Wars. The film explores the family’s unbreakable bond with Africa’s land and the war’s impact on the region and individuals\, as seen through the eyes of a child. \nIn her captivating directorial debut\, Embeth Davidtz\, who also stars in the film\, draws a wildly energetic performance from her young lead\, Lexi Venter. With the support of an incredible ensemble cast\, Davidtz crafts a thought-provoking story that explores a complex chapter in Africa’s history\, told— thorns and all—from the perspective of a little girl. \n(This film is rated R.)

SUMMARY:August Monday Movie Night – SORRY\, BABY
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the August Monday Movie Night screening of Sorry\, Baby. Please join us at the Galaxy Theaters Gig Harbor at 6:30 pm on Monday\, August 25th\, for this incredible film. \nSomething bad happened to Agnes\, but life goes on for everyone else. When a beloved friend on the brink of a major milestone visits\, Agnes starts to realize just how stuck she’s been\, and begins to work through how to move forward. \nWritten\, directed\, and starring Eva Victor\, critics are calling Sorry\, Baby one of the best films of the 2020s. In her directorial debut\, Victor finds a delicate balance between the heavy subject matter and dark biting humor\, which feels honest and truly authentic.

SUMMARY:July Monday Movie Night – FRIENDSHIP
DESCRIPTION:Oh\, boy\, do we have a wild ride for you this month! On Monday\, July 28th\, we will be screening the dark comedy Friendship. Join us at Galaxy Theaters Gig Harbor at 6:30 pm for this hilariously twisted film. \nSuburban dad Craig (played by the ridiculously awkward Tim Robinson) becomes infatuated with his charming new neighbor (played by Paul Rudd)\, but when his attempts to make an adult male friend fail\, his bids to win him over soon threaten to ruin both of their lives. \nThe trailer feels like a horror film (brought to you by A24)\, but the comedy lies in its intensity. The nightmare of trying to make friends as a socially awkward adult and the craziness of family dysfunction create a fine line between insanity\, absurdity\, and hilarity.

SUMMARY:May Monday Movie Night - Bad Shabbos
DESCRIPTION:Oh\, boy\, we have an exciting film for you this month! Audience Choice Winner for Best Narrative at Tribeca 2024\, Bad Shabbos is an uproariously funny comedy that you won’t want to miss. David and Meg\, an engaged interfaith couple\, plan to have their parents meet over Shabbat dinner for the first time. This is already stressful enough\, but when you add an accidental death (or murder?) into the mix\, the laughs keep coming. From the quick dialogue to the strong ensemble cast\, this film will keep audiences entertained from start to finish.\n\nPamela loved this film from the 2025 Sedona Film Festival! When Bad Shabbos ended up winning Directors’ Choice for Best Feature Comedy in Sedona\, she knew she wanted to bring it to Gig Harbor so you could enjoy it as well.\n\nCheck out the trailers here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90VptqEUi4sMa

SUMMARY:April Monday Movie Night- Bring Them Home
DESCRIPTION:We’re truly excited to share the intimate and beautiful documentary\, Bring Them Home\, with you this month! We invite you to join us on April 28th at 6:30pm at the Galaxy Theatres Gig Harbor for this powerful film experience.\n\nBring Them Home/Aiskótáhkapiyaaya chronicles a decades-long initiative by members of the Blackfoot Confederacy to bring wild buffalo back to the Blackfeet Reservation. Along the way\, the initiative faces obstacles from ranchers who see the buffalo as a threat to the cattle ranches that dominate the land and are a legacy of colonization. Bring Them Home examines the deeply meaningful role that buffalo played in Blackfeet life prior to the arrival of settlers\, who nearly eradicated these majestic creatures. Regarded as fundamental to a healthy ecosystem and as spiritual relatives\, the removal of buffalo resulted in the loss of the Blackfeet way of life and a trauma that continues to reverberate today.
