These poems travel across ethereal borders and find a man in honey who finds his way home from the pub after too many hours\, who finds rain is no sorrow. And too\, there is the mayhem of devastating fires\, a man with a hose\, where every road is a dead end\, or the woman in “Bench Warrant” who is “rising on her own / after last night’s collapse / the wind gone out of her.” Crowed’s shiny objects are life’s joys and sorrows. They are a witch in the woods and the ginger cat dreaming of a perfect love. -Kevin Miller\, author of Spring \nMeditation and Vanish Crowed should be read slowly and luxuriously for each poem is deeply layered and gorgeously told in stunning language. The subject matter is varied and intriguing\, from encounters with birds to travels through Ireland and back through history. Each poem is a delight. In its entirety\, the book is a wonder. -Maggie Kennedy\, author of The Unraveling Script \nABOUT THE AUTHOR: \nCrowed is Michael Magee’s fifth collection of poetry and a Sally Albiso Prize finalist. In this collection he goes back to his Celtic roots\, family\, and friends and pays homage to those he’s learned from. His most recent third third and fourth collections were Shiny Things and Budapest After Dark\, published in 2025. His plays and poetry have been produced here and in England and Greece. New work appears in Open Book: Western Washington Poets Network Anthology and Cirque. He conducts writing workshops and appears on KTAH FM RadioTacoma\, VerseDaily.Org\, and The Writer’s Almanac. Michael’s poems reflect his interest in nature\, theatre\, music\, literature\, and travel. His mentors and friends have been David Wagoner\, Ben Drake\, and William Matchett\, professors emeriti at the University of Washington. His musical influences include: Franz Liszt\, Chopin\, Lou Reed\, Leonard Cohen\, Marianne Faithfull\, and Townes Van Zandt. He has lived in England and traveled in Ireland as well as Hungary\, Morocco\, and Turkey. He is recipient of a Jack Straw Residency and lives in Tacoma\, Washington.

DESCRIPTION:Join Harbor WildWatch for a fun and educational public beach walk program on the stunning shorelines of the Salish Sea. Our knowledgeable and friendly biologists and volunteer naturalists will guide you through a hands-on exploration of the intertidal zone\, where you will discover the incredible diversity of marine life that calls our local waters home. \nDuring the program\, you’ll learn good beach etiquette and get the chance to touch and examine creatures such as sea stars\, crabs\, and sea anemones\, while learning about their unique adaptations and behaviors. You’ll also hear about the challenges facing our ocean ecosystems\, and what you can do to help protect them. \nThis beach walk program is suitable for all ages and skill levels\, and is perfect for families\, school groups\, or anyone with an interest in the natural world. Whether you’re a seasoned beachcomber or a first-time visitor\, Harbor WildWatch’s beach walk program is sure to leave you with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and complexity of our local marine environment. \nOur programs run in all weather\, so please dress appropriately. We recommend closed-toe shoes for safety – rain boots\, water shoes\, or an old pair of sneakers you don’t mind getting a little wet and muddy work great. Bring a water bottle\, sunscreen\, layers\, and a snack if you think you will need it. Each beach walk will last approximately 60-90 minutes but you are welcome to peel off at any time before the beach walk concludes. Harbor WildWatch programs are always free\, but a suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 family is appreciated. \nSunrise Beach Park Logistics:\nGetting to the Beach: Park in the lot\, making sure not to block other cars or private property. Meet on the lawn near the parking area at the top of the hill at the scheduled time. Look for Harbor WildWatch staff and volunteers wearing blue. If you arrive late\, find us on the beach!\nTerrain: A steeply sloping grass hill leads down to the short trail to the beach. SUMMARY:Beach Monitoring – Sunrise Beach Park
DESCRIPTION:Beach Monitoring is one of Harbor WildWatch’s signature Participatory Science Programs where twice a year (summer & winter)\, we collect data from different beaches throughout the South Sound area. This information helps us determine how the beaches change over time and could be useful in determining the impact of a future natural or human induced event. \nWe meet in the parking area of the beach around the scheduled time to organize gear before heading out to our monitoring site (Usually 10-15min past the scheduled start time). See below for more detailed directions about the monitoring location. Participation with these special participatory science events gets you\, your friends\, and family directly involved with the protection of our local beaches and who knows\, may even inspire future ecologists. Mark your calendar for any or all of these upcoming events. Remember\, you don’t have to have a science background to participate\, nor are you required to stay for the entire duration of the typically 3-4 hour program. All ages welcome. \nFor Summer Beach Monitoring we recommend that you are prepared with layers (it does tend to be cold at the beach)\, sun protection\, snacks\, hydration\, and closed toed shoes (rain boots\, water shoes\, or old sneakers you don’t mind getting wet work great). Some folks like having a light pair of rain pants for keeping dry when we kneel on the beach but that’s not required. \nSunrise Beach Park: Sunrise beach is a turnoff to the left from Moller Drive NW. We will meet in the parking area before heading to the beach at the scheduled start time. If you arrive later\, there is a short hike down the grassy hill to the beach.
